In 1997, after 40 plus years of marriage, Mr. Meada’s first true love passes away. They first met in high school and became sweethearts. It was not a welcomed union by her father. He felt that Bill, being the first male in his household would be a burden to his daughter. Traditionally, the first son was to take on the responsibilities of the two households, which Bill could not afford at the time. It is participatory. It is not meant solely to push content, in one direction, to a captive audience, the way movies or traditional network television did.It provides the greatest array of entertainment and information, on any subject, with any degree of formality, on demand. It is the best and the most trusted source of commercial product information on cost, selection, availability, and suitability, using community content, professional reviews and peer reviews. One of the best channels for promoting brands, products and businesses is Internet advertising and it has evolved into one of the most explored new mediums available today.According to the Indian Revenue Service, the Internet has outperformed all other diverse media channels in terms of compound annual growth rate (CAGR), with figures reaching up to 37. 3 percent. This is much higher than the registered growth rate for terrestrial television, at 7. 1 percent CAGR, print media at 3. 7%, CAGR and cinema at only 3. 1% growth rate. The number of online users in the country is steadily growing. As of 2010, there are 81 million Internet users in India out of the 1. 17 billion total populations, for a 6. % penetration rate according to statistics from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). These figures will continue to grow rapidly in the coming years as more operational Internet providers will open up shop and gain more subscribers. In India, the same as everywhere else, the cost for marketing in traditional forms of mass communication like television, radio and print are very cost-prohibitive in terms of the ratio of cost against market reach. Internet marketing is much more cost-efficient as it does not cost usinesses that much to create websites, maintain opt-in lists, and other online advertising techniques. Traditional advertising media uses a shotgun hit-and-miss approach, while Internet marketing tools are aimed towards more targeted audiences. Internet marketing methods such as pay-per-click, pay-per-action and pay-per-play advertising can solicit response only from targeted audiences giving advertisers more cost effective advertising displays to market their products. Internet marketing uses more inter active tools that engage consumers in a more in-depth manner than traditional passive media.Potential customers can readily provide their comments and feedback, giving company’s real-time analysis as to what customers need in order to better align their marketing strategies. On top of that, Internet marketing tools have better and faster ways of measuring marketing statistics, giving them insights as to what would be more appealing to their targeted customers. Internet marketing is m ade more effective due to word-of-mouth or viral marketing, with much Internet marketing content easily shareable through various popular social networking sites in India such as Orkut, Facebook and Bharatstudent.Such online content can also be shared through blogs and video sharing sites, giving the potential of reaching a wider audience even more. In a report published by the Internet and Mobile Association of India, the average Indian user spends approximately 3. 5 hours a week, or 26 minutes a day, on the Internet and would spend 12% less time during the weekends. The study also reported that Indian women spend less time on the Internet than men and less so during the weekends. The report also indicates that activities on social networking sites peak by 12% on Fridays.A recent survey conducted by research companies in the advertising industry led to estimates that will place internet advertising revenues close to $428 billion in 2011, a big jump from last year’s $220 bill ion revenues. 21 percent of global Internet users now consider online advertising to be more relevant than traditional media such as radio, television, newspapers and magazines. According to a report from eMarketer, spending for online advertising in the United States rose by 13. 9 percent last year.Indian companies are now putting more confidence in internet advertising and many are ready to commit advertising dollars in this marketing channel for this year and in years to come. The rapid growth of the Internet in the nation as well as the growing popularity of social media networks are prompting commercial and business advertisers to expand their marketing initiatives to include Internet advertising – and take Indian businesses to a whole new level. According to Eric Clemons, Professor of Operations and Information Management at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.He said that the Internet shatters all forms of advertising. â€Å"The problem is not the med ium, the problem is the message, and the fact that it is not trusted, not wanted, and not needed,† he writes. Pushing a message at a potential customer when it has not been requested and when the consumer is in the midst of something else on the net, will fail as a major revenue source for most internet sites. Games and sports include all outdoor and indoor games and also athletics. In ancient Greece they formed the principal part of education. In the advanced countries of the present day also they are a regular feature of the school and college curriculum.Games and sports may be of various kinds. Apart from school or college sports, boys and girls may practice races, jumps, discuss throw and javelin throw and thus pass their afternoon in useful activities. They may play various games like football, cricket, hockey, volleyball, basket ball, badminton etc.School and College Games and sports are annual affairs. Sports are generally held in winter months. Students take part in various games like high and long j umps, pole vault, go-as-you like and different kind of races. These annual sports foster competitive spirit and sportsmanship. Sometimes inter class tournaments are held in relation with football, hockey, cricket, tennis, cycling, volleyball, badminton etc. These games foster team spirit among the participants and make them disciplined.The importance of games and sports can never be minimizedFirst of all, they are good exercises and help to build fine, physique for the boys and girls. They make them mentally alert and physically strong. Secondly, students learn to cope with difficult situations. By displaying their feats before many spectators, they can overcome their nervousness. Thirdly, games and sports are good diversions and give them energy to learn their lessons well. For these reasons, every civilized nation values the importance of games and sports and spends large sum of money on improving the standard of games and sports among its players and athletes. The standard of gam es and sports in India is far from satisfactory. So, the  Government should take steps to improve this standard. Importance Of Games And Sports Survival and success of man has always depended upon his mental and physical energy. History tells us that only those nations could enjoy supremacy over others which more powerful and more active than their rivals. Therefore to develop standard of physical fitness nations of the world gave due importance to sports and games. In ancient Greece, such festivals were regularly held in which events of sports and games were arranged. The present day Olympic Games are conducted in the memory of Olympiads of the ancient Greece.Today in the modern age the importance of sports and games is much more than it was in the past. The impact of machine growing comforts of life, sports and games provide us the opportunities of physical exercise along with enjoyment. It is obvious that healthy individuals make a healthy nation and nobody can deny that, â€Å"Health is wealth† Every school and college has its sports day when annual competition in the games and sports are held. There are cricket c lubs, hockey associations, swimming clubs, boating clubs, football clubs and athletic forces of the country sports and games hold an unrivaled place.Also, the general population displays a keen interest in sports and games, The sports are popular among all classes of people; the reason is that sports influence a man physically and mentally as well as morally. In all kind of sports, the muscles of the body are engaged and so the body is developed. Different organs of the body are given exercise and as a result, eyes become sharper’ hearing is made keener and so on. It is quite obvious how sports influence the body but sports do much more. As Hippocrates said, â€Å"sport is a preservor of health†Playing games and sports has important advantages in a way that it socializes our lives. For example, when people intend to play basketball, they do it in groups. That will give them team spirit and a chance to identify each other very well and make friendships and relationships . So it is true that any of sports and games has advantages, since they decrease the stress, teach us skills that we need, satisfy us, and socialize our lives. How to proofread business documents How to proofread business documents The meeting room is booked and youre waiting for your clients to arrive. The reception is strangely quiet and no-one turns up. Its a mystery. After 15 minutes, you resort to re-reading the invitation you sent out, and a horrible realisation dawns on you: instead of writing there will now be a meeting, you wrote there will not be one. Such a costly mistake is down to a simple slip of the fingers that could have been picked up through proper proofreading, of course. But such a simple-sounding process is not so simple to get right unless you know the proper techniques. Love is blind As the writer of a document, its harder to spot any errors in it. You know what you meant to say, and so your brain will conveniently skip over missing words, typos and jumbled sentences. For this reason, its always best to get someone else to proofread your work. But even then, if your colleague doesnt have a toolkit of proofreading techniques, they can wade through your words without really improving your work. Whether youre writing for an internal or an external audience you need to make sure that your writing is accurate. This means always checking your work (and that of others) thoroughly. A speedy skim before you hit the send button or distribute a document will rarely be enough. It is one thing for your colleagues or clients to snigger over a humorous typo and quite another to find yourself in legal or financial hot water because of an overlooked error. So follow the tips below to make sure your business writing says what you want it to. Seven ways to proofreading success Print out a hard copy while proofreading on screen. Arm yourself with two copies. Its likely that errors will stand out in one version even if youve glided over them in the other. Ensure the document makes sense. Correcting grammar and punctuation can often seem to be the point of proofreading. But your top priority should be ensuring the document is readable. If its difficult to understand, change it. Remember, plain English is best, so weed out all the complicated words and replace them with no-nonsense alternatives. Use your computer spellchecker. But remember that Bill Gates doesnt have all the answers. Your spellchecker doesnt read for sense, only accuracy it doesnt know whether you mean mountain peak or peek. So dont be a slave to it. Always use a dictionary if youre not sure. Use a pencil to point to every single word. Scientists have found that in normal reading we dont scan every word. Instead, our eyes move in little jumps, fixating on key words. Using a pencil and ruler slows your brain down. Check the title or headline. Its easy to overlook the most obvious thing on the page and get bogged down in the details. Also, make sure the title is relevant to the document. Check telephone numbers by calling them. Its surprisingly easy to transpose numbers when writing them. Misplacing one digit can ruin a marketing campaign, for instance. Dont waste valuable time and money by sending out documents with incorrect phone numbers. Make sure youre not the only person to read the last proof. If the document is important and youre the only one whos seen it, hold fire until you can get a second pair of eyes to see it. Show your colleagues these proofreading tips and make sure they follow each one before giving you the go-ahead. Getting to the good stuff You now have a beautifully proofread piece of work thats grammatically correct, accurate and makes sense. But unless its written in a punchy style, you cant guarantee that your readers will sit up and take notice. The next step is to read through and make sure that every word counts. For instance, you may be able to squeeze a whole paragraph into a short newsletter item simply by removing wasteful words here and there. A Profile of Teresa of Avila Like Catherine of Siena, the other woman named Doctor of the Church with Teresa of Avila  in 1970, Teresa also lived in turbulent times: the New World had been opened to exploration just before her birth, the Inquisition had been influencing the church in Spain, and the Reformation began two years after she was born in 1515 in vila in what is now known as Spain. Teresa was born into a well-to-do family, long established in Spain. Some 20 years before she was born, in 1485, under Ferdinand and Isabella, the Tribunal of the Inquisition in Spain offered to pardon conversos- Jews who had converted to Christianity- if they had secretly been continuing Jewish practices. Teresas paternal grandfather and Teresas father were among those who confessed and were paraded through the streets in Toledo as repentance. Teresa was one of ten children in her family. As a child, Teresa was pious and outgoing- sometimes a mixture that her parents couldnt handle. When she was seven years old, she and her brother left home planning to travel to Muslim territory to be beheaded. They were stopped by an uncle. Entering the Convent Teresas father sent her at 16 to the Augustinian Convent Sta. Maria de Gracia, when her mother died. She returned home when she fell ill, and spent three years there recovering. When Teresa decided to enter the convent as a vocation, her father at first refused his permission. In 1535, Teresa entered the Carmelite monastery at vila, the Monastery of the Incarnation. She took her vows in 1537, taking the name of Teresa of Jesus. The Carmelite rule required being cloistered, but many monasteries did not enforce the rules strictly. Many of the nuns of Teresas time lived away from the convent, and when at the convent, followed the rules rather loosely. Among the times Teresa left was to nurse her dying father. Reforming the Monasteries Teresa began experiencing visions, in which she received revelations telling her to reform her religious order. When she began this work, she was in her 40s. In 1562 Teresa of Avila founded her own convent. She re-emphasized prayer and poverty, coarse rather than fine materials for clothing, and wearing sandals instead of shoes. Teresa had the support of her confessor and others, but the city objected, claiming that they could not afford to support a convent that enforced a strict poverty rule. Teresa had the help of her sister and her sisters husband in finding a house to begin her new convent. Soon, working with St. John of the Cross and others, she was working to establish the reform throughout the Carmelites. With the support of the head of her order, she began to establish other convents that maintained the orders rule strictly. But she also met opposition. At one point her opposition within the Carmelites tried to get her exiled to the New World. Eventually, Teresas monasteries separated as the Discalced Carmelites (calced referring to the wearing of footwear). Writings of Teresa of Avila Teresa completed her autobiography in 1564, covering her life until 1562. Most of her works, including her Autobiography, were written at the demand of authorities in her order, to demonstrate that she was doing her work of reform for holy reasons. She was under regular investigation by the Inquisition, in part because her grandfather was a Jew. She objected to these assignments, wanting to work instead on the practical founding and managing of convents and the private work of prayer. But it is by those writings that we know her and her theological ideas. She also wrote, over five years, the Way of Perfection, perhaps her best-known writing, completing it in 1566. In it, she gave guidelines for reforming monasteries. Her basic rules required love of God and of fellow Christians, emotional detachment from human relationships for full focus on God, and Christian humility. In 1580, she completed another of her major writings, Castle Interior. This was an explanation of the spiritual journey of the religious life, using the metaphor of a many-roomed castle. Again, the book was widely read by suspicious Inquisitors- and this wide dissemination may have actually helped her writings achieve a wider audience. In 1580, Pope Gregory XIII formally recognized the Discalced Reform order Teresa had begun. In 1582, she completed another book of guidelines for the religious life within the new order, Foundations. While in her writings she intended to lay out and describe a path to salvation, Teresa accepted that individuals would find their own paths. Death and Legacy Teresa of Avila, known also as Teresa of Jesus, died at Alba in October of 1582 while attending a birth. The Inquisition had not yet completed its investigations of her thought for possible heresy at the time of her death. Teresa of Avila was declared a Patroness of Spain in 1617 and was canonized in 1622, at the same time as Francis Xavier, Ignatius Loyola, and Philip Neri. She was made a Doctor of the Church- one whose doctrine is recommended as inspired and in accord with church teachings- in 1970.
